Chorlton Mill, Manchester

Chorlton Mill is located south of Manchester city centre adjacent to the River Medlock and opposite the former Dunlop Factory. Chorlton Mill and its chimney are Grade II listed, and are grouped with several industrial buildings of architectural and historic interest in the locality.

The conversion of Chorlton Mill provided a mainly residential use on the upper floors with semi-public and commercial uses on the lower levels. The converted mill building has a total of 85 loft apartments, 17 live/work studios, a cafe bar/restaurant, furniture showroom, offices and car parking for residents. The historic building fabric has been sensitively retained and repaired with the main alteration work involving the provision of new lifts and newbuild elements to provide offices on Hulme Street and a rooftop penthouse with terrace. The chimney is an important landmark on the southern approach into Manchester and has been re-used as part of the ventilation system for the sub-basement car parking area.
